BJP core committee meeting will also be held to discuss State Budget and finalise party programmes

Close on the heels of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa convening an executive committee meeting of the Karnataka Janata Paksha on January 4 to discuss ways to topple the Jagadish Shettar government, the Bharatiya Janata Party State in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan is arriving in Bangalore on January 5 to evolve a counter-strategy.

The BJP’s core committee will also meet on the occasion to take stock of political developments. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who is jittery over Mr. Shettar getting ready to present the State Budget and in the process building a political constituency, has threatened that he will topple the government before the presentation of the budget by convincing MLAs from his camp to quit.

The BJP has already commenced efforts to woo the rebel MLAs from Mr. Yeddyurappa’s camp. The BJP is keen on presenting the election-year State Budget as it can be projected as a sort of poll manifesto.

As of now, the party wants the budget to be presented around February 8.

In this regard, the core committee is expected to deliberate on various aspects related to the budget, including the prominent programmes to be included to woo different communities and sections of society, besides using it as a political tool to derive poll advantage.

According to sources, the core committee will finalise various activities and strategies to be taken up by the party till the announcement of the Assembly elections to galvanise its organisation.

Jaitley coming too

The core committee is expected to meet again on January 20 when party key strategist Arun Jaitley will visit Bangalore to finalise some of the poll strategies. Mr. Jaitley will address a convention of advocates at the Palace Grounds. The BJP is trying to ensure the attendance of about 4,000 advocates for the convention, which is being organised to woo various professionals.

Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman is addressing a media workshop for the party’s prominent workers in Bangalore on January 3.
