Members of the Tumkur Zilla Pourakarmikara Sangha staged a demonstration here on Friday in protest against not allocating enough funds for the welfare of pourakarmikas.

District vice- president of the Sangha B. Umesh alleged that the Chief Minister had allocated crores for the development of cities but did not give enough for them.

“A Chief Minister who speaks about the welfare of Dalits has failed to allocate funds for the people who lift garbage. Though Siddaramaiah mentioned about the abolition of the contract system of recruitment, nothing has been said about regularising the services of pourakarmikas, who have been working on contract basis for several years,” he said. Manjunath, treasurer of the sangha, and S. Raghavendra, district secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India, were present.
