The strike by the cargo-handling workers at the New Mangalore Port ended on Monday afternoon, said M. Shekhar Pujari, president, Association of New Mangalore Port Stevedores.

“The problem was solved today, from 2.30 p.m., they started working,” he said.

However, he said that at present, the work was mechanised and no labour was involved in the movement of cargo, he said. Traffic Manager at the port S. Gopalakrishna confirmed the workers had resumed work on Monday.

The cargo handling workers of NMPT had resorted to a snap strike on Saturday afternoon. They wanted their services to be availed in the captive berth of Udupi Power Thermal Corporation Ltd. (UPCL).
