“Laksha Deepotsava” was celebrated with traditional pomp and gaiety here on Monday.

Lighting of oil lamps on Car Street gave it a beautiful look. A large number of devotees participated in the festivities.

Lakshmivara Tirtha Swamiji of Paryaya Shiroor Math placed oil lamps on the wooden stands in the afternoon. Nearly 32,000 lamps were placed on the stands specially erected on Car Street.

The ritual of “kshiraabdhi” was performed at the “mantapa” in the centre of Madhwa Sarovar on Sri Krishna Temple/Math premises.

In the evening, after prayers, the idols (“utsava murthis”) of Lord Krishna and Lord Mukhyaprana (Lord Anjaneya) were brought in a palanquin from Sri Krishna Temple/Math and placed on a decorated boat.

The boat went around the “mantapa” at “Madhwa Sarovar”. This is known as “Teppotsava”.

Then, the idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Mukhyaprana were kept in “Garuda Ratha, while the idols of Lord Ananteshwara and Lord Chandramoulishwara were placed in “Mahapooja Ratha” and taken around Car Street.

A large number of “gududeepas” (“Akashbuttis”) were hung at Madhwa Mantapa as part of the “gududeepa” competition organised by Sri Krishna Math.
