BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday stayed elections to the posts of president and vice-president of the Mysore Taluk Panchayat (TP).

Justice Rammohan Reddy passed the order on petitions by Ravi Kumar and Basavanna.

In their petitions, Mr. Kumar, who is contesting for the post of president, and Mr. Basavanna for vice-president, said that the two posts had not been reserved for the candidates as per norms.

Norms defended

Additional Advocate General Ashok Harnahalli defended the reservation norms applied for the two posts and said the State had taken district as a unit for reservation.

Mr. Justice Rammohan Reddy stayed the elections to the two posts in the Mysore Taluk Panchayat and adjourned further hearing of the case.

Fresh list

The court asked the State Government and the petitioners to come up with a fresh list of reservation for the two posts by June 3.
