Koppal: Polling in the gram panchayat elections in all the four taluks of Koppal district was peaceful.

However, there was some delay in the start of polling owing to the non-receipt of ballot papers at three polling booths in Kustagi taluk and confusion over symbols at two polling booths in Gangavathi taluk. The voter turnout was around 50 per cent at about 3 p.m.

Polling was delayed by about three hours in some booths at Nilogal, Bommanahalli and Chalgeri villages in Kustagi taluk owing to delay in supply of ballot papers. Polling was held up till 11 a.m. at a polling booth in Chiacksindogi village in Koppal taluk when candidates, Devappa Naik and Neelavva, raised objections over the change in symbols. It commenced only after fresh ballot papers were brought with the corrected symbols. Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer K.S. Satyamurthy ordered repoll at a booth in Sulekal gram panchayat after a candidate objected to a change in symbol. The repoll will be held on May 11.
