BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) Legislature Party on Saturday authorised party president H.D. Deve Gowda to select two candidates for the Legislative Council polls.

Briefing reporters after the legislature party meeting, JD(S) State unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy said Mr. Gowda would choose the candidates in consultation with other leaders.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who returned from Delhi after forging an alliance with the Congress for the Rajya Sabha and Council elections, briefed the party MLAs about the poll understanding between the two parties.

He said that as per the poll pact, the JD(S) would back the Congress candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls while the Congress would allow the JD(S) to contest two MLC seats.

He took exception to criticism of Congress leader H. Vishwanath to the party entering into an alliance with the JD (S).
