Madikeri: Ornithologist and medical practitioner S.V. Narasimhan called upon the Kannada Sahitya Parishat units in Kodagu not to let politicians take centre-stage in Kannada conventions and programmes, but accord prominence to pro-Kannada programmes.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Founding Day of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat on Kodagu Patrika Bhavan premises here on Wednesday.

Political interests should not dominate the cause of Kannada as it would defeat the purpose of organising such programmes, Dr. Narasimhan said. No good has come to Kannada-medium schools from the State Government's Kannada Language Policy, he said. Politicians attend Kannada conventions but do little to further its cause, he claimed. The programmes organised by the parishat had not made the desired impact in terms of growth of the language, Dr. Narasimhan noted.
