The West and South Division police turned up at the homes of more than 350 history-sheeters on Tuesday and took more than 250 of them in preventive custody before booking them under various sections of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.). The rest were let off with a warning.

The police action was the result of a spurt in criminal activity in different parts of the city. Police said that among those arrested were three people who were plotting a dacoity in Vijayanagar. They claim to have seized lethal weapons, a laptop and seven bikes worth Rs 2.5 lakh from P M Raju, 19, of Marriyappanapalya, V Sagar, 19, of Moodalapalya and Rakesh, 19, of Nagarbhavi. Further investigation revealed that Raju had been booked by the Jnanabharathi police for various robberies and thefts. He had also been booked for vehicle thefts by the Vijayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar police.

Another arrest was that of 24-year-old Rajesh, who was picked up from his residence on Bannerghatta Road.

Vijayanagar police arrested Pawan Kumar (19) for theft and chain snatching. They found valuables, including gold, and a motorbike totally worth Rs 2.7 lakh from his residence in Modalapalya.
