Udupi: The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse two groups including some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders at "Bala Vana" park at Kota in Udupi district on Monday.

Reports said that there was a controversy over a pathway through the "Bala Vana" park. While one group wanted a path through the park, another opposed it. Brahmavar MLA K. Jayaprakash Hegde had promised to solve the matter peacefully.

But after the victory rally of the BJP on Monday, BJP MLAs Lalaji Mendan, Sunil Kumar, Halady Srinivas Shetty, BJP MLC, V.S. Acharya and Vice-President of State unit of BJP, A.G.
