Stones pelted after lorry killed two girls

People ask JSW to provide compensation

Traffic disrupted for four hours

BELLARY: The police had to lob teargas shells and resort to lathi-charge to quell a mob that was pelting stones and damaging one of the JSW offices near the company township on Sandur Road on Friday after two teenage girls were knocked down by a lorry. The police said that the two girls, Shahana and Jyoti, residents of Talur village and working as domestic help, were waiting off the main road for public transport to return home when a lorry knocked them down. While one died on the spot, the other succumbed on the way to hospital.

As the news about the accident spread, people from Talur and surrounding villages assembled and blocked the Sandur-Toranagal road demanding compensation for the victims. They reportedly demanded that JSW pay the compensation as the lorry had come to supply materials to the company, and started pelting stones.

Traffic on the road was disrupted for over four hours.
