Jewellery shop owners advised to install burglar alarms

HASSAN: Hassan district police exhibited goods worth Rs. 29.71 lakh recovered in various cases, at the District Armed Reserve grounds in Hassan on Wednesday.

Among them were gold ornaments, LPG cylinders, copper wires worth Rs. 7 lakh belonging to Suzlon Company, two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Cases

Superintendent of Police K.V. Sharatchandra told presspersons that 108 cases were registered in the district between February 1 and May 20. Of them, 50 cases were solved and 40 people arrested, he said.

During this period 16 cases of murder were reported in the district (10 solved), 11 cases of dacoity (three solved), five cases of robbery (three solved), 46 cases of theft (15 solved), four chain-snatching cases (one solved), four cases of dowry death (three solved), 12 cases of dowry harassment (nine solved) and 10 cases of rape were registered (six cases solved), he said.

Among the arrested was Neelakanta in connection with a dacoity case. The police recovered 220 gm of gold ornaments from him. Sashidhar of Mirle village in Holenarsipur taluk was arrested on the charge of stealing 26 LPG cylinders meant for cooking mid-day meals in schools. Goods worth Rs. 57.63 lakh were stolen during the period, he said.

On the occasion, some articles were handed over to their owners after verification.

Reward

Mr. Sharatchandra said that over 108 personnel involved in solving the cases were given appreciation letters and cash rewards totalling Rs. 1 lakh.

Mr. Sharatchandra appealed to jewellery shop owners to install burglar alarms in their shops.
