BANGALORE: A 30-year-old man in dire financial straits allegedly joined hands with a distant relative to murder his wife’s 65-year-old grandmother.

Unwilling to share the booty, he allegedly murdered his accomplice also.

The Central Crime Branch police discovered this plot during the investigations into recovery of bodies of Lourd Mary (65), who was running a meat shop in Agrahara Dasarahalli, and her son’s brother-in-law Srinivas in August. While Ms. Mary’s body was found on the Laggere Ring Road on August 9, Mr. Srinivas’s decomposed remains were found in a shrub in Electronics City police station limits three days later.

The CCB, which was asked by Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari to investigate the murders, arrested Frank Anthony (30) of Uttarahalli, husband of Mary’s granddaughter.

The CCB started questioning Ms. Mary’s relatives and friends and suspicion fell on Anthony, who had suffered heavy financial losses and was being pressured by his creditors for repayment.

The sleuths went through his cellphone conversations.

The police said Anthony eyed Ms. Mary’s jewellery and teamed up with Srinivas, who helped her run a shop but was disgruntled because she did not treat or pay him properly.

On the fateful day, they misled the victim saying her daughter was serious before battering her to death with a rod.

They sold her gold chain and four gold bangles at a shop in Hanumanthanagar for Rs. 1.05 lakh.

However, Anthony wanted all of it and he invited Srinivas for a party on August 9. He took him to a shrub and allegedly murdered him.

The CCB team recovered the gold ornaments, Anthony’s vehicle, two mobile phones and other records.

Mahadev (32), an autorickshaw driver, was found with his throat slit in HMT Layout 1st Cross in Peenya police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said he drove from home around 5 a.m. and passers-by later saw the body on an open piece of land, about 200 metres away from his autorickshaw.

The Jnanabharati police are searching for Anand, the boyfriend of a 23-year-old woman murdered in Nagarabhavi on Wednesday.

The police said the victim, Radha, had broken off with him and he allegedly hacked to death with a machete. Radha’s sister Sowmya was hurt in the leg in the attack. She is in hospital.

According to the police, Anand was not happy with Radha for the latter’s refusal to continue her relationship with him.
