A police constable, identified as Siddaiah, was arrested recently on charge of dishonestly receiving stolen property from an accused in theft case.

Siddaiah, who is attached to the Kumaraswamy Layout police station, was earlier crime beat police constable attached to the J.P. Nagar police station.

The police said Siddaiah allegedly received gold ornaments from Mahesh (30), who was arrested a few days ago in connection with a chain-snatching case. When Mahesh was questioned, he revealed his link with the constable, Siddaiah. Based on the evidence that the police got from the call log of Mahesh’s phone, Siddaiah was arrested and 80-grams of gold jewellery was seized from him. He was remanded in judicial custody. Sources said that Siddhaiah had been associated with Mahesh and was involved in such cases earlier. While rumours surfaced about the constable having been transferred due to such involvement, the JP Nagar police however denied itand said that it was a regular transfer.
