S.M. Jaamdar, Principal Secretary, Department of Home, said the State government has issued orders for creation of additional posts and manpower for the Mangalore Police Commissionerate.

Mr. Jaamdar told presspersons that there were some difficulties for the Commissionerate. “Some orders were issued last week regarding manpower creation and some additional posts. The problem is basically about staff,” he said. About the magisterial powers of Mangalore Police Commissioner, Mr. Jaamdar said separate orders need not be issued by the government in this regard. Mr. Jaamdar said following orders of the High Court, the government had issued orders with regard to execution of non-bailable warrants, notices, and other orders of the criminal courts. He said a head constable or a constable would be assigned to each court to monitor and coordinate on a daily basis the execution of warrants and other directions. The orders were issued two weeks ago. “The situation had now improved a lot,” he said.

Mr. Jaamdar said ensuring production of witnesses and serving notices on them had been cumbersome and a laborious task. “In the long run, a detailed thought needs to be made on creating a separate process wing either in the court or in the police,” he said. Mr. Jaamdar visited the place allotted for building the new Mangalore district prison in Konaje. He visited the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory.
