The police prevented Siddaramaiah, Congress leader, from addressing a public meeting at Honnali on Monday at 10.15 p.m. The police switched off the public address system and snatched the mike from local leaders of the party, stating that no party was allowed to hold a public meeting after 10 p.m. as per the guidelines of the State Election Commission.

Congress workers who had assembled at the taluk stadium for the meeting began arguing with the police for disrupting the party meeting. However, the police, along with the tahsildar, explained to the Congress workers it was illegal to conduct public meetings after 10 p.m.
