HUBLI: The funeral of Girish Shiggavi, alleged to be a victim of police atrocities, was held amid tight security here on Wednesday.

Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani announced that the case would be handed over to the Corps of Detectives.

He ordered suspension of four constables of the Keshwapur Police Station who reportedly took Girish into custody on Tuesday on charges of gambling.

Their names were given as I.K. Dharwad, Bandeppa Agasimani, Babu Agasar and L.Y. Patil. The police had deployed additional forces in the area. The police did not allow the body of the victim to be taken to the house of the victim at Bengeri.

Assistant Commissioner Mahantesh Bilagi has been asked to submit the inquest report within a month.

Since the death had occurred under mysterious circumstances, a report would be sent to the National Human Rights Commission also, sources said.

Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar visited the house of the victim on Wednesday and consoled Girish’s mother Laxmavva.

He handed over to her Rs. 10,000 on behalf of the BJP.
