BANGALORE: The Bangalore police on Wednesday formally announced the arrest of three men for allegedly transporting explosive material and helping others in planting explosives in various parts of the city in connection with the July 25 serial blasts here. This takes the number of arrests to 16. According to a press release, the names of the three persons are Tajuddin from Vedimara in Ernakulam district in Kerala, Surfuddin alias Surfu from Kannur in Kerala, and Abdul Khadar from Virajpet in Karnataka. The police recovered four vehicles used for transportation of the explosives and planting the bombs.
The arrests were made following the revelations made by Thadiyantavide Nazir and Shafas Shamsuddin, nabbed by the Meghalaya police on December 2. They were two of the 10 sought by the Bangalore police in connection with the blasts. After taking them into custody, a team of Bangalore and Kerala police took the two to different places in Kerala and interrogated them. Investigations have revealed that Nazir joined Abdul Naseer Madani’s organisation Islamic Seva Sangh (ISS) at 16.
After working for a while in an Arab country, Nazir came to Kannur where he conducted tariqat classes besides starting the Thayyil Islamic Cultural Centre.
