Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has urged Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy to take steps to plug revenue pilferage in the North Western Karantaka Road Transport Corporation, to bring down losses.

Inaugurating the foundation laying ceremony of the new city bus terminal (CBT) in Hubli on Wednesday, Mr. Shettar said it was due to the mistakes of the officials that the NWKRTC and North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation were under losses and that both required additional support from the government. Referring to the measures taken during the BJP government , Mr. Shettar said the government had released Rs. 25 crore to the transport corporation to purchase new buses and had also taken a Cabinet decision to sanction Rs. 50 crore to the NWKRTC as a grant.

Mr. Shettar told Mr. Reddy that funds could be made available for upgradation of bus stations in backward regions as per the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee.
