Residents of Belgaum taluk have urged the Government to direct the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) to supply regular power to rural areas. The former MLA and leader of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti B.I. Patil led the village residents and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday, demanding that the Government not resort to load-shedding in Belgaum city and taluk. Farmers needed proper irrigation for their potato crop. Also, students preparing for their final examinations were inconvenienced by the power cuts. Hence, the Government should supply three-phase power for at least eight hours a day, Mr. Patil added. — Staff Correspondent
