Madikeri: H.M. Nanda Kumar, a Congress member in the Madikeri City Municipal Council (CMC), has appealed to M.P. Appachu Ranjan, Madikeri MLA, not to “play politics” in cancelling the Kundamestri drinking water project.

In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Kumar said that K.G. Bopaiah, the former MLA from Madikeri, was instrumental in getting sanction for the project. Mr. Ranjan should have consulted the councillors before announcing an alternative drinking water project for Madikeri. He had said recently that drinking water could be lifted from the Abbimakki area. But it could take years to get approval for the project, Mr. Kumar said. It was the responsibility of the councillors to ensure adequate drinking water supply in the city. The Betri project had not materialised due to political reasons, he said.
