The Hubli Sports Ground Bachao Samiti (HSGBS) held a protest opposing the setting up of a recreation club on a public playground here on Saturday.

The protest was held on the eve of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s scheduled visit. Members of Opposition parties, voluntary organisations, students and residents extended their support.

The protesters formed a human chain at the Rani Chennamma Circle. The samiti leaders condemned the former Chief Minster Jagadish Shettar and BJP State president Pralhad Joshi for allegedly backing the efforts to set up a recreational club, when the Bharatiya Janata Party government was in power in the State.

Congress leader Mahesh Nalawad, senior lawyer C.B.L. Hegde, Kadayya Hiremath, KJP leader S.S. Patil and Amruth Ijare led the agitation. Mr. Siddaramaiah, who will arrive here on Sunday, will meet veteran journalist Patil Puttappa who is spearheading the agitation. Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik came under attack for his silence over the issue from Congress leader Vedavyas Kaulagi.
