A self-styled social worker and an aspirant to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council seat was arrested here recently on charge of creating fake documents to grab land.

The Fraud and Misappropriation Squad officials of Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested Kiran Shankar (30) and two of his associates, Sathish Veerachari (26) and Ramesh Chikkaveeraiah (29), for allegedly attempting to sell a piece of property by creating fake gift deeds.

All the three are college dropouts.

The police have seized forged documents from them.

Their intended victim was S. Dhananjay Naidu of J.P. Nagar, who had bought property in Puttennahalli from Y. Lalithamma, a Mandya farmer, in 2006.

In August 2010, Mr. Naidu the owner submitted the documents for photocopying to shop where one of the accused was working as an assistant. The three then sensed an opportunity: instead of returning the originals, they handed over the colour photocopies to Mr. Naidu, who didn't realise he was being had.

“Kiran and the others conspired to grab that property by creating a duplicate gift deed and attempted to sell it. They also threatened the owner with dire consequences.

A case was registered in J.P. Nagar police station in August 2010. Based on credible information, we have arrested the accused,” a CCB official said.
