Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC and president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, held Dayanand Asgar, Registrar of Gulbarga University, as an example to students of how perseverance and hard work paid rich dividends in life.

He was speaking after felicitating Prof. Asgar at the annual communion of students of M.S. Irani Pre-university College here on Saturday. Mr. Namoshi recalled how Prof. Asgar, who came from a very poor family, achieved academic excellence through hard work. He carved a niche in academic circles as a research scholar and scientist in microbiology, and headed the Microbiology Department in Gulbarga University before being elevated to the post of Registrar.

Mr. Namoshi said that several steps had been introduced in educational institutions run by the society, to improve the quality of education imparted in these institutions. However, the results, particularly from pre-university colleges, were not encouraging. He said teachers were responsible for improving the quality of education. The society would also help improve the infrastructure of the colleges, he added.

Mr. Namoshi paid rich tribute to the teaching faculty of the M.S. Irani College.
