Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretariat member G.C. Bayya Reddy exhorted people to be vigilant against evil designs of religious fundamentalist forces which are attempting to break the unity of people in the name of God and religion.
Advocates of Hindutva and Muslim fundamentalism should be defeated to protect the secular fabric of the country, Mr. Bayya Reddy said while addressing a gathering at a dharna at the Gandhi Park here on Thursday.
CPI(M) district unit organised the dharna as part of ‘Save Secularism Day’ to mark the 20th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. The acts of the communal and fundamentalist forces aimed at diverting the attention from the problems of the people.
These were to be thwarted and efforts should be made to help people of different religious faiths unit to build a strong movement against poverty, he said.

Members of the Popular Front of India staged a protest at Ammavarpet Circle on Thursday to mark the occasion.
Led by the organisation’s district president, Mohammed Imran Pasha, The protesters submitted a memorandum to the President through Deputy Commissioner D.S. Vishwanath.
They demanded rebuilding the Babri Masjid at the site where it was demolished and sought action against those responsible for the demolition of the mosque.
