Special pujas were held in the temples across the district on Monday to mark Mahashivaratri festival.

Devotees thronged the Shiva temple at Harakere village near here from various parts of the district. After taking a dip in the Tunga located behind the temple, devotees offered puja for Lord Shiva. People took a holy dip even at Kudli where the Tunga joins the Bhadra. The mythical story of Lord Shiva consuming poison that emerged during Samudramanthana was presented by Vasavi Yuvajana Sangha at Kannika Parameshwari temple in Gandhi Bazaar area of the city. A mass Isthalinga puja was held under the aegis of Rashtriya Basava Dal in Vinobha Nagar area of the city to mark Mahashivaratri. Serpentine queue of devotees was seen before the Shiva

temple adjacent to Veershaiva Kalyana Mandir and in front of Bheemeshwara temple in Kote Road in the city.

In Bhadravati, Rudrabhishekha and other rituals were performed at the Shiva temple

located on the banks of the Bhadra.
