Announcement on Aadhaar-linked DCT of LPG subsidy gets them moving
With the Centre gearing up for the pilot launch of the Aadhaar-linked direct cash transfer (DCT) of domestic LPG subsidy to consumers’ bank accounts in Mysore district on February 15, hundreds of LPG consumers queued up at the Aadhaar enrolment centres in Mysore district on Thursday.
There was a particularly heavy rush at the enrolment centre near the Town Hall here.
‘Time till Feb. 15’
The announcement by Joint Secretary (Marketing), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Neeraj Mittal, in Mysore on Wednesday that consumers would have to pay market price for LPG cylinder from February 15 probably triggered the rush. The subsidy amount will be credited directly to the bank accounts of consumers after they submitted their Aadhaar numbers to distributors and banks.
In view of the rush, people were issued coupons and told to come on particular days. The second phase of Aadhaar enrollment in the district was launched recently.
A total of 25 centres, including 12 in Mysore city, have been set up in the second phase.
Besides the nine MCC Zonal offices, one centre each had been established at the Senate Hall and the MCC main building.
