People of Kadekodi in Kumta taluk submitting a memorandum in Karwar on Thursday against the setting up of a toll gate

People of Kadekodi in Kumta taluk on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada opposing the setting up of a toll gate in their village on the proposed four-lane national highway.

The villagers in their memorandum said that setting up of toll gate at Kadekodi would endanger hundreds of houses, shops, areca nut, coconut and banana plantations, swathes of land where paddy, onion and groundnut are cultivated.

People of the village said that the proposed toll gate would affect 39,650 square metre land in the village in addition to the land lost for widening the highway. This would add to the environmental pollution, they alleged.

The protesters demanded that the toll gate be shifted 2 km away where there is adequate uncultivated land. Vijaya Mahantesh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, received the memorandum

Shridhar Bhat, Krishna Naik, and Yoganand were present.
