Residents of Mundaragi village in Yadgir taluk seized foodgrains that were allegedly being taken in an autorickshaw to be sold on the black market on Friday.

According to reports, the foodgrains were meant for the public distribution system (PDS). Ten bags of rice and two bags of wheat were seized from Shankar, the PDS shopowner.

800 cardholders

There are around 800 cardholders eligible for foodgrains from this shop.

While BPL cardholders are eligible for 4 kg rice, a kg of wheat and a kg of sugar, those under the Antyodaya scheme get 29 kg rice, a kg of wheat and a kg of sugar.

As per the complaint filed by the residents, the shopowner seldom supplied foodgrains to the beneficiaries. Senior officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department seized the foodgrains.
