Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to increase the fares of its air-conditioned services — Vajra (Volvo) and AC Suvarna — with effect from the midnight of Wednesday.
While there would be no increase in Vajra fares for stages 1, 2 and 16, the fares would be increased by Rs. 5 for stages 3 to 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22 and 23, and by Rs. 10 for stages 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 24 and 25.
Similarly, there would be no increase in fares of AC Suvarna in respect of stages 1 to 4, 6 and 9. Fares would be up by Rs. 5 for the remaining stages.
The day pass rates for AC services too have been increased by Rs. 10.
Rates of passes
At present, the gold day pass that allows travel in all BMTC services except airport specials, is sold at Rs. 110 and AC Suvarna day pass is sold at Rs. 70.
BMTC said frequent increase in prices of diesel and pay hike for its employees necessitated the move.
