Results were announced in colleges on Sunday

Only 16 p.c. students who appeared for exam passed last year; this year it is 34

In Gulbarga and Bidar, the percentage of girls who passed was higher than that of boys

Bidar: The results of the second pre-university examination held between March 13 and 26 were announced in the colleges in Bidar and Gulbarga districts on Sunday.

While the pass percentage in Bidar is 34.94, it is an improvement of 16.57 per cent in the last academic year.

Gulbarga district’s pass percentage was 22.43 last year while in 2009, it is 29.17 per cent.

2,713 students pass

Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Bidar, R.M. Biradar told The Hindu that out of the 8,441 students who had appeared for the examination in Bidar district in March 2009, 2,713 students cleared the examination.

According to Mr. Biradar, in the arts stream, out of the 4,452 students who had appeared for the examination, 1,310 of them passed.

In the commerce stream, out of the 571 students who appeared for the examination, 168 of them passed.

In the science stream, 3,418 students had appeared for the examination and 1,235 students cleared the examination.

Comparison

Mr. Biradar informed that the pass percentage was better in urban areas than in rural areas. As many as 6,254 students appeared for the second pre-university examination in urban areas of the district and 2,156 students passed.

As against this, in rural areas, of the 2,187 students who appeared for the examination, only 557 cleared the examination. Of the total of 8,441 students who appeared for the second pre-university examination in arts, science and commerce streams,

Mr. Biradar said 3,833 were boys and 4,608 were girls. Of the total of 2,713 students who cleared the examination, 1,557 girls and 1,156 boys passed.

In 2008, Bidar district occupied the 30th position in the State and in 2009 it has occupied the 26th position, Mr. Biradar added.

29th position

Gulbarga district occupies the 29th position in the State with a pass percentage of 29.17.

Speaking to The Hindu over the phone, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Gulbarga, V.K. Nagraj said a total of 10,291 boys had appeared for the second pre-university examination and only 2,420 of them passed. Out of 9,814 girls who appeared for the examination, 3,152 of them passed.

While the pass percentage in the urban areas of the district stood at 35.23 percent, it was 19.89 per cent in the rural areas in Gulbarga district, Mr. Nagraj informed.

Though the pass percentage shows a slight improvement compared to the results in 2008, Gulbarga district occupies the 29th position in the State.

On being asked as to how many students had passed the second pre-university examination in the district with distinction, Mr. Nagraj said the list of students who had passed with distinction was not yet available.
