Nearly 1.11 acres had been illegally occupied

The district administration demolished portions of a private amusement park near Chamundi Hills on Tuesday on the grounds of illegal encroachment.

However, the management of the amusement park brought a stay from the court, forcing the authorities to suspend the demolition operations, although 70 per cent of it had been completed by 3 p.m. when the order was brought. The authorities razed a portion of Planet X amusement park at the Chamundi foothills on the grounds that nearly 1.11 acres had been illegally occupied.

Tahsildar Manjunathswamy said the land belonged to Kurabarahalli survey number 4 and the amusement park management had been issued a notice to that effect three months ago. The process of survey and verification was on since then and, finally, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta issued an order on May 12 to carryout the demolition and reclaim the land.

The value of the land was said to be around Rs. 1.5 crore.

Mr. Gupta said the ongoing drive was part of the land reclamation process undertaken by the Government. He said a city survey was underway under the Urban Property Ownership Record project, as per which properties were being surveyed and their boundaries fixed.
