The alleged failure of Panchayat Development Officers to comply with instructions from the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department in connection with proper utilisation of funds has resulted in disciplinary action against them.

S.M. Zulfikarullah, Chief Executive Officer of Kolar Zilla Panchayat, has suspended 13 officers on the charge of dereliction of duty in connection with utilisation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme funds.

The suspension became effective on January 1, and six of the suspended officers belong to Srinivaspur taluk, five to Mulbagal, while two are from Bangarpet taluk.

Non-payment of bills for work taken up under MGNREGA in various taluks despite the availability of Rs. 8 crore was the main reason for the action being taken against the officers.

The officers, it is said, failed to clear bills even after instructions came from the department.

The under-utilisation of funds came to light when the Director (Planning) of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department went through the proposals submitted by the zilla panchayat.
