SHIMOGA: Noted literary critic and author G.S. Amur who has been selected for the Pampa literary award of the State Government was felicitated by Kuvempu University at a function held at its campus near here on Thursday.
Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University B.S. Sherigara who felicitated Mr. Amur by presenting him with the shawl and fruits lauded his contribution to literature.
Replying to the felicitations Mr. Amur said he was overwhelmed that he has been selected for the prestigious award.
Inaugurating the seminar on Modernity: Kannada Poetry and Drama held under the UGC Special Assistance Programme under the auspices of the Institute of Kannada Studies at the university he said that modernity which continued to assume a greater monetary value had emerged as a curse.
He also regretted that science and technology too had developed a threat to cultural heritage. He regretted that there had been no change in the thinking pattern as the values of life were being forgotten in the confusion arising out of the conflicting ideologies.
Director of the institute of Kannada Studies Basavaraj Nellisara outlined the activities of his department.
Coordinator of the SAP Project of the UGC explained the objectives of the seminar. Srikanth Kudige welcomed the gathering.
