Raichur: S. Pakkirappa, MP, has urged Minister for Railways Mamata Banerjee to allocate funds in the Railway Budget for early implementation of work on railway line between Munirabad and Mahabubnagar.

In a letter to the Railway Minister on Thursday, Mr. Pakkirappa said that the 165-km railway line project was proposed to connect Munirabad, Koppal and Gangavati in Koppal district and Sindhanur, Manvi and Raichur in Raichur district. So far the Railway authorities have released Rs. 9.8 crore for the project. Of which, Rs. 1 crore was utilised to pay compensation for land acquired for the project.

The process of acquiring 423 acres of land for the project is under way. An extent of 150.12 acres of land required for the project in Koppal district had been handed over to the Railway authorities, Mr. Pakkirappa said. The Raichur district administration had asked the railway authorities concerned to submit proposals on acquiring land. However, the authorities were yet to submit proposals in this regard, he said. Mr. Pakkirappa urged the Railway Minister to direct the authorities concerned here to submit proposals on acquiring land so that work on the project could be launched.
