Five expert panels under committee: Moily
Udupi: Former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily said on Saturday the Oversight Committee appointed by the Union Government to plan the implementation of quota for Other Backward Classes in Central educational institutions would submit a report by August 31.
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Moily, who heads the committee, said the committee would work on the theme of "expansion, inclusion and excellence". There were five expert committees under the Oversight Committee, which would look into the working and expansion of the Indian Institutes of Management, Indian Institutes of Technology, Central universities, and health and agricultural institutions, he added.
He said it would be wrong to say that backward classes did not contribute to the GDP. The major contribution to the GDP came from the southern States, which had been implementing the reservation policy for many years. Twenty-seven per cent of seats would be reserved from the academic year 2007-08, he added.
Mr. Moily said the Oversight Committee would hold discussions with Chairman of the Knowledge Commission Sam Pitroda and members.
