Karnataka School of Chess (KSC) will organise ‘Karnataka State FIDE Rated Chess Championship-2013’ at Malleshwaram Club in Bangalore from October 2 to 6. The top four players from the championship will be selected to represent Karnataka in the upcoming national challengers to be held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, later during the month.

The championship is being conducted under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the All-India Chess Federation and the United Karnataka Chess Association.

It will have ten rounds of matches, two rounds a day, and each game will have a time control of 90 minutes and 30 seconds increment a move.

The latest FIDE rules will be followed throughout the championship.

A total of 24 trophies and cash awards is up for grabs.

To encourage young talent, trophies would be distributed across the under-7/9/11/13/15 years categories.

The winner will receive a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 20,000.

Representation

Reputed players from the State are expected to participate.

Around 250 players from Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Udupi, Shimoga, Hubli, Dharwad, Kolar, Mandya, Bidar, Gulbarga, Davangere and Chitradurga have confirmed their participation. National and international masters B.S. Shivananda, Aravind Shastry, Sanjay N. and Ekalavya Satvik M. and Sriram Sarja will also participate.
