BANGALORE: Burglars struck at a software engineer's house in Madivala police station limits on Thursday and made away with gold ornaments and a laptop, together worth Rs. 2.5 lakh.

The thieves entered Manvinder's second floor house at Teachers' Colony in Venkatapura by breaking open the main door when he had gone to work. The Madivala police have registered a case.

Theft

In another incident, burglars looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh from Lallu Bai's house on Triveni Road in Yeshwanthpur police station limits on Thursday.

The theft took place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. when she had gone out on some work. The Yeshwanthpur police have registered a case.

Suicide

Varalakshmi (31) committed suicide at her house in Marappa Layout in Rajarajeshwarinagar police station limits on Thursday.

The police said Varalakshmi, who worked in a private industry at Maddur in Mandya district, hanged herself after returning from work. The incident came to light when her husband Sreenivasa came home around 7.30 p.m.

The reason for Varalakshmi taking the extreme step is not known, the police said.

Arrested

The Cubbon Park police arrested a youth who allegedly drugged the car driver of a travel agency and made away with a luxury car. The arrested has been identified as Kishore (22) of Nandini Layout.

The police said that on February 9, Kishore hired the car from the travel agency on Mahatma Gandhi Road. On reaching Cunningham Road, Kishore went to a café, bought coffee and put sleeping pills in it before giving it to the unsuspecting driver.

When the latter fell asleep, Kishore parked him in a lodge in Yeshwanthpur and drove off.

The police said he was driving around after changing the number plate.

Three held

In another case, the Cubbon Park police arrested three persons who allegedly robbed a man of a gold chain at knifepoint near Anil Kumble Circle on February 19 and recovered the chain from them.

They were identified as Humayun (29) of Shivajinagar and Firoze (26) and Syed Hussain (36), residents of Tannery Road.
