HASSAN: The District Consumer Forum settled 33 crop insurance cases during August, the Assistant Registrar-cum-Assistant Administrative Officer stated in a press release here on Wednesday.

The Agriculture Insurance Company has been directed to pay crop insurance totalling Rs. 11,50,284 lakh within one month, failing which 12 per cent interest will have to be paid till the date of payment. President of the District Forum M.K. Sripathi and members R. Anupama and B. Bore Gowda passed this order. The release said that during 2002-03, potato crop failed, and despite farmers insuring the crop, the insurance company had not paid compensation. After perusing records and hearing arguments from both sides, the forum came to the conclusion that the company had erred.
