BELLARY: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V.S. Ugrappa described the incident that took place at Kittur Utsav on Sunday as an attempt to suppress the voice of the Opposition.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said that the behaviour of Minister G. Janardhan Reddy while the Leader of the Opposition was addressing the gathering only went to show about the style of functioning of the BJP government.

“I was just mentioning that the Chief Minister, who participated in various cultural festivals and announce funds for the development of the various districts, did not come here and announce the release of funds. The objections raised by the Minister indicate that the Government did not want any constructive criticism by the Opposition”, he said. Mr. Ugrappa, who did not wish to comment on the reported statement of the former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda on having electoral understanding with the Congress, said that the party’s high command’s decision was final with regard to framing the election strategy.

He made it clear that senior leader Siddaramaiah was with the Congress.
