A 70-year-old man sustained minor injuries while fleeing after seeing an elephant at Gangaiahnapalya in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district on Sunday morning.

Assistant Conservator of Forests D. Devaraju identified him as Gujjarappa. He was sent to NIMHANS in Bangalore for medical tests. He said Gujjarappa, who was shocked to see the tusker, fell down while trying to flee. Mr. Devaraju clarified that the elephant did not attack him.

The tusker, which got separated from its herd from the Advangi forest in Nelamangala taluk of Bangalore Rural district, entered Tumkur district on Saturday. It was in the Lakshmana tank, near Huvinakatte, in Sira taluk on Sunday. Heavy rain hampered the operation to drive the elephant to Bannerghatta forests on Saturday night.
