One person was killed and 35 others injured during a cattle race at Doolapalli in Mulbagal taluk in Kolar district on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Subrahmanya (30), a native of Peddabommnapalli of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

Even though the death of one youth was confirmed, rumours were rife that two others too were killed in the incident.

Confirming the death, Superintendent of Police Ram Nivas Sepat said the organisers had not taken permission from the police to conduct the event.

Hundreds of people from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu besides from Karnataka take part in the race.

The event was reportedly organised in the guise of a cattle race in the village bordering Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as the Supreme Court had banned ‘jallikattu', the bull taming sport conducted in Tamil Nadu as part of Pongal celebrations.
