Over 160 people cutting across religion and caste were awarded old-age pension certificates by Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde at a function organised by Masjid E Mamoor Committee, Koramangala and Swabhimaan, a non-governmental organisation, here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Hegde said helping the poor was the responsibility of the Government.

He added it was also the duty of each and every individual in society to help the poor and the needy. Earlier, the members of the Masjid – E- Committee, Koramangala and Swabhimaan visited many slums in Rajendra Nagar, L.R. Nagar, EWS Quarters, Koramangala and Bismillah Nagar and identified deserving people for the old-age pension, according to a release.
