The Dharwad Zilla Raita Sanghatanegala Okkoota has extended support to Lok Satta candidate Nagaraj Tigadi, who is contesting from Hubli-Dharwad West Assembly constituency.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, convener of the okkoota B.M. Hanasi and farmer leaders Shivanand Gurumath and N.M. Varma said that they had decided to support a party that had been with farmers, farm workers and the commoners.

They said the parties that had ruled the State all these years had failed to address the problems of farmers and common people. Even though farmers had faced hardships after floods in 2009 and 2010 and drought in 2011–12, the ruling party had not helped, the members said.

They said because of the faulty import–export policies of the government, farmers were denied fair prices for their produce.

Mr. Gurumath and Mr. Varma said the okkoota was supporting Lok Satta because it was against corruption, thereby giving a message to the people that there still was a political party that stood by its ideals. Mr. Tigadi was present at the meet.
