The marine crew of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Thursday carried out an operation to salvage a 274-metre-long oil tanker, ‘Pratibha Bheema’, which had been lying adrift in the high seas without power for six months, around 12 nautical miles off the coast from the MPT. A 30-member team headed by Harbour Master Paramjeet Singh towed the ship with three tugs. Mara Pandiyan, chairman of MPT appreciated the coordinated efforts of all his crew who participated in the successful operation. The government had asked the MPT to tow away the vessel fearing that it may drift to the north Goa coast in the monsoon.
