Bijapur: A team of officials from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre made an inspection of Malgan and Kalgurki villages of Basavanbagewadi taluk in Bijapur district here on Friday and Saturday.

Seismometers installed

Speaking to the residents, the team, led by V.S. Prakash, said that such seismometers had been installed in more than 12 places in the State, including Raichur and Chitradurga districts. These instruments would help in studying movements underground which would enable in taking precautionary measures to avoid damage if there was an earthquake.

The seismometers have been installed at government schools in the taluk. In January 2010, Talewadi village in the taluk also experienced mild tremors on two occasions. The tremors felt during January measured 3.1 on the Richter scale.
