Sanna Pakirappa, Raichur MP, has expressed unhappiness over the “laxity” of officials in utilising funds available under the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

Presiding over a district vigilance committee meeting here on Saturday, he said the funds released had remained unused. “This will affect the release of funds under the scheme in future,” he said.

The MP alleged that the officials had given wrong information on the utilisation of funds. “I will write to the State government to take action against those responsible for not utilising the funds,” he said.

Mr. Pakirappa feared that the drinking water situation in the district would worsen during summer and asked officials to complete ongoing drinking water projects on priority.

Officials said Rs. 2.46 crore was available for rural drinking water supply projects, of which Rs. 1.41 crore had already been released.

Officials from the Public Works Department told the meeting that 37 works had been taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, and 231 km of roadworks had been completed at a cost of Rs. 47 crore.

Deputy Commissioner F.R. Jamadar directed zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer S.A. Jilani to issue a show-cause notice to district officer of the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department Bandenawaz for failing to provide details about programmes implemented by the department, despite receiving clear instructions to do so.

Zilla panchayat president Maremma Shankarappa Shanyanore was present.
