Zilla panchayat’s general standing committee president Y.H. Huchaiah took officials to task for not showing progress in the implementation of Ganga Kalyan scheme.

Speaking at the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Huchaiah said that as per the plan, at least 25 per cent of the target under the scheme should have been achieved by December 10, but there was zero progress.

However, the officials concerned said that beneficiaries of the scheme had been identified and they were in the process of identifying an agency to drill borewells, which would be done very soon.

Mr. Huchaiah said that the scheme was meant for the welfare of the poor and if it was not implemented, the officials concerned would be held responsible for it.

He said that 1,270 applications for energisation of borewells were pending with the Bescom for the past six months.

Zilla panchayat CEO Govindaraju directed Bescom officers to provide electrification to at least 500 borewells within a month.

District Labour officer A.P. Pundalika Rao said that 466 child labourers had been identified in the district.

President of the zilla panchayat Prema Mahalingappa and vice-president of the zilla panchayat Mamatha Shivalingaiah were present.
