Congress MLC Allamprabhu Patil took officials of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Engineering Division to task for not completing the drinking water project taken up five years ago to address the water shortage in Nelogi, the home village of the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, MLA Ajay Singh and his (Allamprabhu Patil’s) own village.

“If this is the situation in a village which gave birth to a former Chief Minister, what would be the fate of the drinking water projects taken up in other villages in the district?” Mr. Patil said during the Karnataka Development Programme Review meeting on Monday. “From the MLC development fund, I gave Rs. 10 lakh, another Rs. 16 lakh was provided by the government as a special grant for the drinking water to the Nelogi village and recently another Rs. 50 lakh has been sanctioned for the project, still the project is yet to see the light of the day and the people of my village yet get drinking water,” lamented Mr. Patil.

The officials said that initially the project was designed according to the initial amount of Rs. 10 lakh sanctioned to the project to draw the pipeline, however, this amount was not sufficient to fix filter and also necessary pumps to pump the water to provide required pressure to reach the individual houses in the villages. They said work orders have been issued now to complete the incomplete work using the available funds and the work was expected to start soon. Both the Deputy Commissioner N.S. Prasannakumar and ZPCEO Pallavi Akurathi took to task the officials for preparing multiple estimates for a single project.
