Stern action to be taken against erring officials of Health Department

SIRSI: In view of media reports of suspected dengue fever and chikungunya in Yellapur town, the taluk meidcal officer Shakunthala Bhujang was taken to task by president of zilla panchayat Damodar Gardikar in a meeting held with the Health Department, Yellapur, here on Thursday.

When a series of complaints were received against the working of Yellapur Health Department, at the meeting, Mr. Gardikar expressed his anguish over negligence of the officials.

While reviewing the working of the Health Department in view of suspected malaria, dengue and chikungunya, he instructed the chief medical officer of the taluk to look into the problems of the common man.

On the issue of paucity of medical staff and medicines, raised by the taluk medical officer in the meeting, Mr. Gardikar said the matter should have been immediately reported to the district medical officer and assistance sought for getting medicines and required staff on deputation.

Medical facilities

When medical facilities were available in the district private hospitals why not the same in Government hospitals, he questioned. Once complaints were received from the public stern action would be taken on such erring officials, he said.

District medical officer Sunil Kulkarni, member of zilla panchayat Umesh Bhagwat, member of taluk panchayat Venkatraman Belli, Chief Executive Officer of taluk panchayat Satish Hegde, tahsildar A.G. Naik and others were present in the meeting.
